i am female... straight... just in case
A straight female... That's a bold declaration. I wonder what that case might be.

Bezonders:If anybody of MSLU graduates ever visits this topic, could you kindly express your opinion as to whether it's not an altogether crazy idea to attend one of the MSLU retraining programs. And what's the difference between this and that?
ужас! это кто такому инглишу тебя научил???
I'll chime in again. Back to the theme. Most of my coworkers are native English-speakers, so are many of my friends. The degree of mutual understanding, in a most profound way, is so high that several times I was literally going to address them in Russian. Do you know what I mean?
It doesn't really matter what language you speak in your everyday life. You'd be surprised, it doesn't even matter whether you have an accent or not (they say, when I'm tired I do have a slight one). If you and your partner are really on the same boat, this is it.
Tell me one thing, Klezmer, you do not, then, think in English still, if you were going to address your friends in Russian?
As to the mutual understanding, why, I can understand the boat thing, but it's not always our "shipmates" that we communicate with.

Well, let me tell you something. When I'm speaking English (or any other of my dozen languages) I obviously don't interpret my thoughts to myself, I just speak it.
But there are certain fields like music, where you absorb some verbal OR semiverbal ways of communication since you're a kid. So, speaking of brain activities, the music-making is a very specific kind of work and communication. I mean, I should've mentioned it's at music rehearsals when flashbacks like that happen to me.
Palmex:Rain, have you learned your English in Harlem?
Harlem has faced a radical gentrification quite long ago. Now it's kind of fancy and expensive to live there. If you're looking for THE accent, make it to Red Hook in Brooklyn, up to the shorefront.
or any other of my dozen languages
That's amazing! How come you know such a variety?

In many different ways. It's kind of long story But speaking of that, I am always thankful to my parents, my cultural and lingual environment, and, finally, my journeys across Europe, US, and Israel, since I was a teenager. I am fine with speaking about that because I've never considered language abilities to be my merit.
